ABOUT MY STYLE

In all that I photograph I like to tell a story…

My images have a feminine and natural style, focusing on bringing out the beauty of the person, the atmosphere of an event or that special moment. I shoot in a reportage way, meaning the pictures are never over-staged and over-posed, most of the time you wouldn’t know I was there!

In all my shoots I like to tell a story. Like a good book, I find a beginning, middle and an end, so, for example, I will get details of the set up of the tables, the venue, the flowers, the family home, etc. Then the ‘middle’ is the event itself or the portraits. The ‘end’ shot, is a finish the story. This may be fireworks, a kiss goodbye, dancing to the music late into the night, or the final group shot of everyone involved. Throughout the photoshoot I will always look for the details, these are crucial to telling the story.

Every job is unique of course, but my wide ranging experience means I can apply my skills and style equally to all. Walking into a room of strangers can be quite daunting at first, but because I love meeting new people, I am able to get on well with everyone, from the 80 year old right down to the two year old!

From my clients…

“Jemma is very creative, she had loads of great ideas and was completely professional and organised. She was such a pleasure to work with and a great people person. I look forward to working with her again on other projects soon.” Jennie Phenix, Phenix Yoga

“My personal favourite about Jemma’s work is the attention to detail. She knows how much effort goes into preparing for a special event, so I love how she indulges me in covering the seemingly unimportant parts, the flowers, the table settings, the food, the candles but also the tears in my mothers eyes as I said ‘I do’, my daughter hiding under a table at my husbands 40th party all covered in chocolate cake. She captured it all for us.” Tatiana Ginger, family parties

About Jemma

I have been photographing people and events professionally for over 10 years. Before starting Pearl Pictures, I was, and still am, a commercial photographer, shooting food, interiors and still life as Jemma Watts Photography. As far back as I can remember though, I was always the one with the camera, photographing friends and family, creating albums and prints for memories. It made sense then in 2009 to set up a second company dedicated to people and event photography, and so Pearl Pictures was established.

During the last 10 years I have been commissioned to photograph a huge variety of events and occasions: birthdays, graduations, the school prom; weddings here in the UK and worldwide; business product launches, talks, company parties; and of course families and children. I have shot for many wonderful clients, some of whom ask me to come back year on year to capture the growing family!
